So the bromance is mutual after all. Tom Brady took a pseudo-stance on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when he told reporters that he thinks it would be “great” if Donald Trump won the presidency.

Asked if he thought Trump has what it takes to become the President of the United States, the 38-year-old New England Patriots quarterback responded candidly.

“I hope so,” he said. “That would be great. There would be a putting green on the White House lawn. I’m sure of that.”

Just last week, a sportswriter shared a snapshot of a red “Make America Great Again” baseball cap sitting in Brady’s locker, with the caption, “Tom wants to make America great again,” leading fans to speculate whether Brady was Team Trump.

“Make America Great Again” has become Trump’s official campaign slogan (the GOP presidential hopeful even claimed to have trademarked the phrase back in 2012).

In an interview with WEEI radio on Tuesday, Sept. 8, the football player didn’t deny his friendship with the 69-year-old real estate mogul.

“He always gives me a call and different types of motivational speeches at different times,” the athlete said of Trump, whom he met back in 2002 as  a judge at the Miss USA pageant. “Now that he’s running for president, he sent [Patriots owner Robert Kraft] a hat and it found its way to my locker.”

Trump has long been a vocal advocate of Brady, calling him a “total winner” and a “friend” on Twitter on multiple occasions.

Earlier this month, on Sept. 3, when a federal judge overturned Brady’s four-game suspension following the now-infamous “Deflategate” scandal, Trump triumphantly tweeted, “Congratulations to Tom Brady on yet another victory – Tom is my friend and a total winner!”

Over the years, Trump has also tweeted other words of advice and support to the NFL player, including a congratulations to him and wife Gisele Bundchen in December 2012 on the birth of their daughter Vivian.

When Brady and the Patriots beat the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX in February, the Celebrity Apprentice host was on-hand to provide his commentary.

“Love that Patriots won — Brady is best ever!” he tweeted on Feb. 1. “Seahawks pass was DUMBEST play in the history of football! Great going COACH B!”

Brady has previously posed for photos with Trump at golfing events at the media mogul’s luxurious Trump National Golf Club.

And on Wednesday, Sept. 16, just ahead of the GOP presidential debates, Trump reiterated the pair’s friendship for all to see: “Thank you to Tom Brady, Coach Ditka, Coach Bobby Knight and all of the many champions that have been so supportive!”
