The distraught mom of a 6-year-old girl shot dead when a fight broke out at a Texas car club meetup says she knows the murder suspect — and “will never forgive” him.
Saryah Perez was fatally shot in the chest at around 10:45 p.m. Sunday in San Antonio, as her mom was driving away from the meetup, police said.
Without detailing what started the fight, Mendoza told KSAT News that she knew Andrew Ray Elizondo, the 23-year-old suspect who was arrested Monday and booked on a capital murder charge.
“I will never forgive Andrew! Never! He has kids of his own,” Mendoza said, being held up as she wailed in grief Monday.
“How could he do this to my baby?” she asked.
Videos shared by KSAT show a group of men running up to a car pulling away, banging on the windows — and then four gunshots ringing out. Mendoza was also grazed in the back by a bullet, but not seriously injured, police said.
“My baby had a big heart. She loved everybody … They took her from me! Why?” her sobbing mom asked.
“She wasn’t doing anything wrong! She was enjoying herself,” she said.
“Put guns down! Stop using them! … They took my baby because of a gunshot,” she sobbed. “Stop using guns! Put them down, please!”
